Course Content:

HeartSaver® Bloodborne Pathogens: This focused course offers in-depth training on understanding bloodborne pathogens, the risks associated with exposure, and the strategies for ensuring workplace safety. Participants will learn about the following key topics:

  • The types of bloodborne pathogens and how they are transmitted.
  • Importance of using personal protective equipment (PPE) to prevent exposure.
  • Proper procedures for cleanup and disposal of materials that may be contaminated.
  • Steps to take following an exposure incident.
  • Legal and safety requirements for workplaces, including OSHA standards.

Learning Objectives: Participants will:

  • Gain a comprehensive understanding of bloodborne pathogens, including HIV, hepatitis B, and hepatitis C.
  • Learn to identify situations where there is a risk of exposure to bloodborne pathogens.
  • Understand and apply the principles of exposure control plans, including the use of engineering and work practice controls.
  • Become proficient in the correct use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Know the steps for properly cleaning and disinfecting surfaces and equipment that may be contaminated.
  • Understand the procedures to follow in the event of an exposure incident, including post-exposure prophylaxis.

Certification: Upon successful completion of the course, participants will receive a HeartSaver® Bloodborne Pathogens course completion certificate, demonstrating their understanding of the necessary precautions and procedures to prevent the transmission of bloodborne pathogens. This certification is an important asset for individuals working in environments with exposure risks and serves to fulfill certain job-related health and safety requirements.

Add-On Info All AHA classes require you to have a student workbook. If you have a student workbook from a previous class you may bring it. The Book is included in the class if you do not have one. Digital Student Workbook- This is a digital copy of your student workbook that will be stored and downloadable through the AHA website. If you opt in for a digital workbook you will receive a code and instructions to claim the code on your confirmation email. The Digital Student Workbook cannot be lost as is nice for a quick reference from anywhere! Add a mask, keychain face shield, or Narcan/Naloxone to complete your first aid kit and be prepared for an emergency today.
